(November 28)
On Monday, Jamie and I took Charlotte to PMH to start the maintenance dose of the chemo trial drug. We were there until lunch time again and then went into Leederville to eat. Then back to PMH to collect medications. Charlotte's blood counts are all good and she has put on another kilo. They scared us for a few minutes when we thought she had shortened her height by 2cms from last week, but it turned out to be human error transposing the figures last week. Steroids have halved again and we are expecting to be off them totally next Wednesday. It will be a relief when it finally happens, as Charlotte has balloned out in the cheeks and tummy over the last couple of weeks. She really isn't comfortable at the moment and can't help eating huge meals. Her blood glucose levels have decreased slightly, so that is a good sign.
When we finally got back to Jamie's house after PMH we packed up most of our stuff and filled the Ute ready for home. It was so full all the way up to the tops of the windows! We got back home about 4.30pm and managed to unload the Ute and put all the food away, then fed the animals and finally got our dinner. The hungry food monster was not impressed about waiting and kept letting me know that she was very hungry, but still wanted her favourite chicken stroganoff. The pressure! Lucky I can cook quickly! After she had finished her four course dinner and got her to bed, I managed to unpack nearly everything else. Just a few of Charlotte's craft boxes left to do thank goodness. And the dogs were happily snoring away on their inside bed.
We arrived at school at lunchtime yesterday and Charlotte enjoyed being there. She was very quiet, but got better as the day went on. there were a few awkward moments when a few kids asked tricky questions, but we got through them and she wasn't too tired when we got home. Just kept asking when it was dinner time! Off to school again today and it was school concert day. Charlotte would not have been able to perform in the concert, as she is still struggling to walk, bend and do anything physical really. We went on the bus with her class and sat in the waiting room with them, joining in the drawing, etc. Then got to watch them rehearse and watched the kindy and pre-primary classes perform in the concert. Then back to school on the bus, had lunch and some of her friends did puzzles with her on the mat. She didn't want any photos with the kids in their costumes and when I asked why, she said that she couldn't smile. Poor little thing - we told her that she has a beautiful smile, but she didn't want to do it. She let me take some photos later when she was doing puzzles with her friends though, so that was good. And she got to wear her dance costume tutu all day and loved everyone telling her how beautiful she looked. Its amazing how being in her own home she hardly wakes up at night now to go to the toilet. It means we are all getting more sleep. Yay!
(november 30)
We had a nice surprise yesterday. Charlotte's blood sugar levels continued to decrease, probably because of the steroid decrease. When Kevin called me after dinnertime she didn't need any insulin and was doing the "watch and wait" checking during the night. You never know, she may have just about finished with the diabetes. Lets hope so! Charlotte went to school again yesterday with Kevin and it sounds like she had lots of fun cooking white christmas at school. She ate a tiny piece of it, as it may have sent her blood sugars to the sky. Exciting weekend coming up - Fairy Queen Caroline at the local library and then her friend, Georgia's birthday party. Then on Sunday we might go and watch the My Little Ponies movie - thanks to Charlotte's teachers. Charlotte is very excited!
