update on charlotte's activities

we got home on Tuesday night.. charlotte had a nice time in Broome and slept all the way home on the plane.

Wednesday morning we took her to PMH to meet the speech pathologist, talk to the occupational therapist and a quick review with the doctor.  Of course, that took all day but we have a bit more help for charlotte's condition.  The speech pathologist noted that her speech is slowing and her swallow is affected to a small degree at the moment.  We have to watch her drinking as she coughs often now.  Soon we will have to start thickening her fluids so it all goes the right way down.  Fortunately she is eating OK still and loves soft pasta.

The OT gave us some strengthening tools, but the doctor pointed out that she will not be able to strengthen her muscles as the signal is not reaching her hand now.  So, charlotte has to learn how to write with her left hand.. and we hope she doesn't lose that side too.  Her right leg is weaker than her left but she is doing OK.  Again, the doc warned us that she will likely lose the entire right side eventually.

Charlotte is with mum today, and was supposed to go to school but she got worried and didn't go.  Its a student free day tomorrow anyway and a public holiday on monday.  next tuesday we meet the silver chain people who will help to care for her while she is at home.

That's about all for now.  We are entering some very scary times...
